Weak re-freeze in Mt Rose area

Clear skies overnight led to a superficial re-freeze of the snow surface in open areas near Tamarack Peak, while forested areas still held wet unsupportable snow.  Warm temperatures and inversions have taken their toll on the snowpack, HS was 6-18" with much more bare ground and early season obstacles visible compared to a few days ago.  In most areas the snowpack consisted of 1-2" of slush at the ground, with a layer of wet snow above, and a thin melt-freeze crust at the surface in open areas.  

Although conditions weren't great for skiing, we managed to channel our early season enthusiasm into a day of beacon practice out on the snow.
