Big snow slough in the Red Mtn area

Approximately 15-20cm of new snow with more in wind deposited areas reaching up to 35-40cm. New snow was low desity 4F and uniform until the ice layer below. No signs of instability skinning up (no whumping, shooting cracks, etc.), but we did notice the ice crust layer below the new snow and it was exposed on ridgelines where the winds had blown off the new snow and that made for some difficult cross slope skinning at times.  At the trailhead it was snowing lightly, halfway up it partially cleared, it was foggy and very low visibility but eventually cleared and became partly sunny for the rest of the day.  Temps in the high 20's, light breeze not blowing any snow.

Before skiing this 35-40 degree NW facing slope I ski cut the top with no results. I stopped on the ice layer to skiers right to watch as another skier skied between where i was marking the crust and where we decided the slope would not be safe to ski because of slope angle and the small cornice. The second skier skied down to the safe zone with some new snow sluffing as he skied but it did not step down to the ice layer and he skied safely down.  The third skier was a bigger guy and before entering the slope he ski cut the convexity/small lip/cornice at the top and the new snow sluffed. This is also the steepest part of the slope at approximately 40 degrees. Halfway down it stepped down onto the crust layer/ice bed from the rain earlier in the week. Once stepping down it did not gain width but did gain depth before running out in the lower slope angle as seen in the photo and a video i have but not posted to Vimeo or Youtube.  I would estimate this was an R2/D2 slide with a crown of 40cm.  It did not gain speed or width or much heat, but it was a big new snow slough.  I can email the video if you'd like.
