Wide open window for corn at Luther Pass

Warm day at Luther Pass, but the surface snow only became soft a few inches down, and the thick crust below remained supportable late into the afternoon on our chosen due south aspect. No signs of wet instabilities observed today.

Pic 1: The stucture of the upper snowpack on a south aspect at 8600ft (probed to ground for an HS of 170cm). The lines represent the top and bottom of the thick, supportable crust. Although the snow below this crust was wet, it was stronger and had less liquid water than recently observed at Blue Lakes (4/10) and Carson Pass (4/9).

Pic 2: Ski pen late in the day was still minimal. Boot pen was not much deeper, except near rocks.

Pic 3: Thin, high clouds created some greenhousing and temps were quite warm, but the supportable crust held up on a steep, due south aspect through our departure at 330pm.
