Surface hoar hunting in Hope Valley

Went hunting for buried surface hoar on open slopes along the Burnside Lake Rd today. 

Although it was possible to identify buried surface hoar, it did not appear intact in any of several locations sampled. CTs did have sudden collapse results at this height, but I believe this was due to the lighter initial storm snow in between the wet snow above, and the old snow surface below - not due to intact surface hoar.  Above the mid-storm wet layer, additional storm snow was "right-side-up". All but the top 6" was Moist or Wet. No ECTs propagated today, and micro test slopes did not show signs of instability. 

About 24 inches of new snow by mid-afternoon, with a break in S5 snowfall rates between noon and 3pm.
